Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria and His Royal Highness Prince Daniel to visit UT

On October 28-29, Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will be visiting Tallinn and Tartu. At the University of Tartu Rector of the UT Volli Kalm and Honorary Consul of Sweden in Tartu Madis Kanarbikwelcome the Royal Couple.

The aim of the visit to Estonia is to increase cultural, economic and environmental cooperation between Estonia and Sweden.

On the first day of the visit, on October 28, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will meet with the President of the Republic Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Mrs. Evelin Ilves. The royal couple will participate in the presentation ceremony of the Swedish Business Award 2014 at the KUMU Art Museum. They will also place flowers in a public ceremony at the memorial “Broken Line”, dedicated to the Estonia ferry disaster. The royal couple will also participate in the Sustainable Development Forum 2014 dedicated to the Gulf of Finland Year and Baltic Sea Year.

On the second day of the visit, on 29 October, they will visit Ericsson Eesti AS. After that they will go to Tartu. In Tartu the royal couple will attend the ceremony of handing over the ethnographic collections of the Nordic Museum, and they will participate in the ethnographic design seminar in the Estonian National Museum. They will also meet the members of the Estonian Students’ Society in Tartu.

At 4.15 p.m., the royal couple will proceed to the visit to the University of Tartu where they will be received by the rector Professor Volli Kalm and Madis Kanarbik, Honorary Consul of Sweden in Tartu. The delegation will visit the University of Tartu Art Museum, and thereafter there will be a meeting with the royal couple in the assembly hall.

After the greeting of Volli Kalm and brief introduction of the University of Tartu, Jevgeni Ossinovski, the Minister of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia, will make a short presentation “Estonia as a Knowledge and Research Nation”. Helene Hellmark Knutssoni, the Minister for Higher Education and Research of Sweden, will proceed with the speech “Sweden as a Knowledge and Research Nation”, and finally, Daniel Sävborg, Professor of Scandinavian Studies, will speak about the history and current situation of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Tartu.

After the presentations, the Crown Princess will speak to the pupils and students who have come there and who are studying Swedish and/ or culture of Sweden.
